Lotito: Lazio run better than Juve
Friday 11 September, 2009

Lazio President Claudio Lotito tops the table and claims his club is the real example for Serie A, more so than Saturday’s opponents Juventus.

This will be a top of the table clash, but also one between the sides who have balanced the books most effectively in the peninsula.

“What do I envy Juve? Absolutely nothing,” snapped Lotito in the Gazzetta dello Sport. “Their new stadium will cost 110m Euros. Mine will be 800m and open 24 hours a day with surrounding businesses. I am the real innovator.”

The plans to build new separate arenas in the capital are gathering pace, as yesterday Roma announced they would begin construction.

“What matters is not declaring an intention, but making it happen. I just say that I will keep my promises.”

Juve’s new stadium is already under construction on the site of the old Stadio Delle Alpi, and will be the first in Italy to be owned by a club, while Inter have also confirmed similar plans.

However, Lotito maintains that Lazio have the edge over the Bianconeri in terms of overall approach, especially after winning the Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup.

“You don’t need to spend money to gain success, as I won two trophies with ideas. And I beat Inter,” smiled the patron.

“Winning the Scudetto only does damage. Lazio prefer other competitions. We targeted the Coppa Italia last season and won it.

“We will get to the level of challenging for the title, but in the meantime I have won the ‘Financial Scudetto’ by balancing the books. When we have our own stadium, the income will increase even more.

“I am setting an example for Italian football. I will never leave Lazio and the more the fans protest, the more I will push forward.”
