Cassano: 'World Cup is my dream'
Friday 25 September, 2009

Antonio Cassano appeals to Marcello Lippi for a World Cup spot and apologises to Fabio Capello. “2010 is my dream.”

The Sampdoria starlet has been frozen out of the Azzurri squad despite a marked improvement in his attitude.

“Taking part in the 2010 World Cup is my dream, but the media have to leave Lippi in peace so he can relax,” Cassano told TG1 cameras.

“I haven't heard from him since before the 2006 World Cup. I am 100 per cent available, but in Italy it is difficult to shake certain reputations off. I have become if anything too nice!

“I know that Lippi is an intelligent man and will not be conned by third or fourth parties.”

In his past the Bari-born striker has also had run-ins with other tacticians, most notably current England manager Capello.

“He is one of the people in football who cared about me and I caused him so much trouble. I do owe him an apology.”

Cassano travelled to Spain to join his ex-Roma boss at Real Madrid, but they had a falling out.

He takes on Inter in this evening's Serie A match, which you can watch LIVE from 17.00 UK time.

“I send a special message to Jose Mourinho, as he is a true winner and one of the best Coaches of the last 20 years, along with Capello.”
