Italian media tear into Mourinho
Wednesday 30 September, 2009

Inter’s stalemate with Rubin Kazan has prompted a media backlash in Italy against Jose Mourinho. “Cesare Prandelli is the real Special One.”

The Portuguese Coach has won only two Champions League games with his current club, drawing five and losing three, but the result in Russia stretched his winless streak to seven encounters.

“Inter rely on their individuals, but we’d best not even consider their team play,” snapped Nicola Cecere in the Gazzetta dello Sport today.

“This time they were facing Rubin Kazan, not Barcelona, yet we continue to see a gap in organisation that seems even cruel.

“Had there been a decent centre-forward instead of Bukharov, there would’ve been no escape for Inter. Europe risks becoming a nightmare for Mourinho.”

The newspapers remind fans that it was for his failure to win the Champions League that Roberto Mancini was sacked last year, but precious little has changed.

“Rubin are the weakest side in Group F, yet they still managed to dominate the tempo and style of the game,” noted Gazzetta scribe Alessandro De Calò.

“Without Diego Milito and Thiago Motta, the Portuguese Coach played the same way as last year with Amantino Mancini and Ricardo Quaresma. We saw many long balls for Samuel Eto’o, as if he were still Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“For one night, Prandelli is the real Special One. Mourinho has a lot to learn from him and Fiorentina, who gave everyone a football lesson.”

The Viola’s 2-0 drubbing of Liverpool impressed as much as Inter’s stalemate disappointed and many focused on Mou’s nickname.

“Inter are a desert, grey and sad,” wrote Enzo Bucchioni in Il Giorno. “Mourinho may well be a great communicator, but he’s a banal Coach. Tactically he hasn’t got one thing right.

“The big problem is that this team hasn’t got a clue how to play football. Inter don’t improve in Italy or Europe and that must mean something. Lots of talk, not much to show for it, dear self-appointed Special One…”

Blogger Franco Rossi claimed that “Mourinho’s continual blah blah blah has left Inter shell-shocked. They were embarrassing and it’s not possible to always step on to the field terrorised of the opponents.”

The decision to introduce Quaresma in the second half was dubbed “the great mystery” by Il Giornale. “He is a gaping black hole and it’s difficult for even those who admire Jose to stick with him on this.”
