Official: New Chiesa contract

Federico Chiesa has officially extended his contract with Fiorentina to June 2022, despite interest from Juventus, Napoli, PSG and Chelsea.

The versatile winger just turned 20 last month and his contract was due to expire in 2021.

Today’s announcement confirms he has put pen to paper on a new deal just 10 months after his last contract.

It’s reported there is no release clause in this new contract and his wages are bumped up to €2m per year, but it won't stall approaches from European giants.

Ranieri: 'Park two buses with PSG!'

Nantes Coach Claudio Ranieri “always hopes an Italian club will win the Champions League, or Paris Saint-Germain,” then jokes about “parking two buses.”

The former Leicester City tactician is preparing for the Ligue 1 encounter with leaders PSG.

“I always hope an Italian club like Juventus, Napoli or Roma will win the Champions League, but failing that, I’d cheer on PSG, as it’d be a boost to French football, which at the moment I am a part of,” said Ranieri in his Press conference.

‘Chiesa, don’t leave Fiorentina!’

Cyril Thereau has urged Federico Chiesa to reject Paris Saint-Germain and stay at Fiorentina, where “it’s the perfect environment for him.”

Reports on Tuesday claimed Chiesa’s father, ex-Fiorentina and Italy striker Enrico, held talks with PSG over a possible transfer for his son, and Thereau admitted seeing the 20-year-old join the French giants would ‘kill’ him.

“Chiesa’s a very smart lad,” the veteran attacker told Premium Sport.

Chiesa meeting with PSG

There are reports Fiorentina star Federico Chiesa’s father Enrico met with Paris Saint-Germain to discuss his future.

This is not the first time that Chiesa has been linked with a swoop by PSG, who believe he can follow in Marco Verratti’s footsteps by succeeding in Ligue 1.

Under contract until June 2021, he has been the standout player for his club this season and aged 20 is already pushing for a place in the senior Italy squad.

Can Jorginho rescue Italy?

Italy look set to finally give Jorginho his competitive debut in the most dire of circumstances, writes Marco D’Onofrio.

It is utterly ridiculous that Giampiero Ventura waited a year and a half into his tenure with the national team to call-up Jorginho, and even more embarrassing that he opted to play Lorenzo Insigne in the midfield in the second half of Friday’s 1-0 World Cup play-off defeat to Sweden instead of Europe's most accurate passer.

Ventura: 'Tactics, heart and determination'

Giampiero Ventura confirmed Italy “will change something” for their World Cup play-off with Sweden, but “we need tactics, heart and determination.”

The first leg ended 1-0 in Solna on Friday and the decider is at San Siro on Monday at 19.45 GMT.

Marco Verratti is suspended, while it’s reported he could scrap the 3-5-2 formation in favour of a 4-2-4 or even 3-4-3.

Tardelli: 'Verratti profoundly disappointing'

Marco Tardelli tore the Italy squad to shreds, above all Marco Verratti, and warns “if they play like they did against Sweden, it’s best to avoid the World Cup.”

The Azzurri lost the first leg of their play-off 1-0 in Solna on Friday evening, decided by a deflected Jakob Johansson strike.

“Italy played well below the level needed to come home from Sweden with a positive result. I saw a team that was slow, predictable, always passing backwards,” 1982 World Cup winner Tardelli told Il Tempo newspaper.

Marotta: 'Alves surprise, not Bonucci'

Juventus director Beppe Marotta insists Leonardo Bonucci “did not leave because of Max Allegri,” but Dani Alves was “a bolt from the blue.”

The CEO sat down with Il Giornale for a lengthy interview, in which he also touched upon the big names who left this summer.

“Dani Alves was the real surprise, that was a bolt from the blue. He made a choice that seemed to be for Manchester City, then PSG turned up.

“There was a moment where we clashed, because I wanted the professional to show respect towards Juventus.”
