Cause for Juventus midfield concern?

Juventus sought to bolster the midfield after a poor showing in Rome. Luca Cetta assesses the heart of the Bianconeri team.

Hit by a Bosnian one-two punch at the Stadio Olimpico, Juventus have recorded their worst start to a season in over a century. Not even Paulo Dybala’s strike and a late flurry could rescue a point from their Roman excursion.

No Juve team has commenced as poorly as Massimiliano Allegri’s side since 1912, when the competition was built on regional groupings. The Bianconeri later finished rock bottom of the Piedmont section after one win in 10 matches.

Asamoah off UEFA list

Juventus have not included Kwadwo Asamoah or Simone Padoin in their squad for the Champions League.

The deadline for clubs to name their 25-man squad is this evening, and the Bianconeri have submitted a list of 23 players to UEFA, leaving two spaces as they could not name enough players developed by the club, of which there should be four.

Asamoah was thought to be nearing a return to fitness following knee surgery, but has not been included for the group stages, with Padoin also left out.

The many faces of Juventus

With Juventus fighting on three fronts, squad rotation and management becomes increasingly vital. It’s an area in which Luca Cetta believes they are excelling.

Allegri: 'Padoin can be a Coach'

Max Allegri said Simone Padoin “could become a Coach” after filling in for Andrea Pirlo as Juventus beat Empoli 2-0.

The Bianconeri notched up a fourth consecutive Serie A victory, although Roberto Pereyra’s late goal meant it wasn’t a fourth straight 1-0 result.

Padoin: ‘To Dortmund to win’

Simone Padoin declares that Juventus will not go to Borussia Dortmund to play for a draw in their Champions League second leg.

The Bianconeri hold a 2-1 lead going into the away leg of the Last 16 tie, meaning that a draw would see them advance to the Quarter Finals.

“We have a slight advantage, but I think it would be wrong to go to Dortmund just trying to come back with a draw,” Padoin told JTV, Juventus’ in-house television channel.

Arturo Vidal is at his first game after recovering from a knee injury, but La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sky Sports and Sport Mediaset all expect him to start.
