Wk13: Take nothing for granted

There's a revolution taking place in Serie A and anyone who assumes things are going their way will be left empty-handed, writes Susy Campanale.

After a break for international duty that saw Italy miss out on their first World Cup since 1958, it was only fitting that this weekend’s Serie A games should follow a similar theme: take nothing for granted.

Nicola: ‘Genoa punished us’

Davide Nicola says Crotone were punished for giving away too many goalscoring chances in their 1-0 defeat to Genoa.

An 11th minute strike by Luca Rigoni ensured Davide Ballardini got off to a winning start in his third stint as Griffone boss, handing the Pitagorici their first loss in three games.

“On paper, Genoa came here as direct rivals to us given the table,” Nicola commented in the aftermath of the match.

“However, they have strong players and they came here to play with a lot of humility.

Ballardini ‘satisfied’ after debut win

Davide Ballardini declared himself ‘very satisfied’ after a winning start to his third Genoa tenure.

The Griffone were 1-0 victors at Crotone this afternoon, with Luca Rigoni’s early goal proving decisive in Calabria.

Asked for his thoughts on what was only Genoa’s second win of the season, Ballardini had little cause for complaint.

“Today, Genoa played a good match, especially in the first half,” the new Rossoblu Coach told reporters post-match.

Ballardini cure revives Genoa

Genoa made the ideal debut under new Coach Davide Ballardini, snatching a surprise 1-0 win away to Crotone thanks to Luca Rigoni.

The tactician took over from Ivan Juric after three straight defeats and immediately turned things around.

Rigoni got the only goal of the game at the Stadio Scida, taking advantage of lax defending to sneak up at the back post and nod in Diego Laxalt’s cross.

The visitors had the best chances to extend their lead and Mattia Perin never really felt in danger.

Nicola: ‘Better Crotone mentality’

Davide Nicola believes Crotone’s improved recent form is down to a ‘better mentality’ shown by his players.

The Pitagorici started slowly in Serie A but have won their last two matches to climb up to 15th in the table.

Speaking ahead of today’s important clash with third-from-bottom Genoa, Nicola praised his side’s development of late.

“Away from home we have only won one match,” Nicola commented.

Pellissier: 'Inglese, don't join Napoli'

Sergio Pellissier has urged teammate Roberto Inglese to stay at Chievo. “He’s ready for Napoli, but I’m not sure Napoli are ready for him.”

The Partenopei have already bought the striker for €10m, but he had been due to remain in Verona on loan until the end of the season.

That may well change to January after Arkadiusz Milik sustained a serious knee injury.

“He can play regularly at Chievo, he has the opportunity to grow and to continue scoring goals,” Pellissier told Mediaset Premium.
