Manolo Gabbiadini “is not for sale,” said the Southampton star’s agent, so Lazio fight Torino for Milan’s M’Baye Niang instead.

The Italy international’s name had been mentioned as a potential replacement for Keita Balde Diao, who is undergoing his medical with Monaco this evening.

Probable Italy squad for Spain

Italy will name their squad to face Spain and Israel later today, which is expected to include Federico Di Francesco, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Manolo Gabbiadini.

The Azzurri go into two decisive World Cup qualifiers next week.

They visit the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid for a top of the table showdown with Spain on September 2, then host Israel at Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium on September 5.

Hoedt: 'Always a Lazio fan'

Wesley Hoedt waved goodbye after completing his transfer to Southampton. “I will always be a Lazio supporter.”

The centre-back signed a five-year contract with the Saints this evening, having arrived as a free agent in 2015.

“After two years, my time with this great club is about to end,” wrote Hoedt on Instagram.

Official: Hoedt joins Southampton

Lazio have officially sold defender Wesley Hoedt to Southampton in a deal worth a reported €17m. “It’s a good next step for me.”

He underwent a medical yesterday and signed the five-year contract this evening.

“I'm really happy to be here. I think Southampton is a really big club, so it's a good next step for me to come here and to play in the Premier League and try to help the best I can,” Hoedt told southamptonfc.com.

Tare explains Hoedt departure

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare confirms Wesley Hoedt is set to join Southampton and explains his departure.

The Dutch centre-back is on the verge of joining the Saints on what is reported to be a four-year contract.

Asked about the 23-year-old leaving the Biancocelesti, the Albanian official revealed that the defender could not be guaranteed first-team football at the Stadio Olimpico.

“The decision to sell him was at his request because he wanted to be a guaranteed starter,” Tare commented.

Lazio look to Gabbiadini

Il Messaggero claims that Lazio are eyeing Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini if they sell Keita Balde Diao.

Keita is refusing to attend training after a contract dispute, the President today accusing him of “extortion” for attempting to force through a transfer to Juventus.

Coach Simone Inzaghi warned they will need a replacement and Il Messaggero newspaper reports the prime target is Gabbiadini.

Hoedt to Southampton tonight?

Lazio defender Wesley Hoedt will reportedly complete a €17m transfer to Southampton on Friday evening.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, which broke to story of Hoedt bidding farewell to his Lazio teammates on Thursday, the Dutchman’s switch will be finalised shortly.

He is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Saints and will subsequently be overlooked for the Aquile’s Serie A opener against Spal on Sunday.

Hoedt says Lazio goodbyes

Wesley Hoedt has reportedly said goodbye to his Lazio teammates, as he prepares to join Southampton.

It was reported yesterday that the Saints had made a €17m bid for the Dutch centre-back, with the Biancocelesti having agreed with the player’s agent that they’d sell him for that price.

This morning, Tuttomercatoweb reports, Hoedt said goodbye to his teammates at Formello, and he’ll fly to England imminently.
