Conte: ‘Pirlo won’t play’

Italy CT Antonio Conte confirms Andrea Pirlo “won’t make the game” against Norway tomorrow.

The New York City FC midfielder picked up a hip injury during training last week, and missed the qualifier with Azerbaijan.

“Pirlo trained today, even if it wasn’t with the group,” Conte told Sky.

“He’s already started doing changes of direction, the problem is that it would be too big a risk and he won’t make the game.

‘Italy? It depends on Napoli…’

Mirko Valdifiori acknowledges he will only return to the Italy squad if he shows good form for Napoli.

The 29-year-old won his first cap in the friendly against England in March, but was not included for the latest round of Euro 2016 qualifiers, which saw the Azzurri confirm their place in France.

“Making your debut in the national team was an unforgettable moment,” Valdifiori recalled in an interview with Sky.

“Future call-ups are dependent on the work I do every day with Napoli, so I have to focus on that.

Conte: ‘Pirlo injury not serious’

Antonio Conte assures Andrea Pirlo’s injury is “nothing serious” but it’s “unthinkable” he could play tomorrow.

It was announced earlier today that the New York City midfielder would miss Italy’s clash with Azerbaijan, as he has suffered an adductor injury, but the CT assures the injury is not a bad one.

“During the warm-up match, Andrea went into a challenge with a teammate,” Conte explained to Sky.

Conte: ‘Pirlo out for Azerbaijan’

Italy CT Antonio Conte announces Andrea Pirlo will miss Azerbaijan tomorrow with an adductor injury.

The Azzurri can seal their place in Euro 2016 with three points in Baku, but will have to do so without the New York City midfielder.

“Andrea will be unavailable for tomorrow’s match,” Conte revealed in his pre-match Press conference.

“He was injured today in training, he made a strange movement and pulled up with an adductor injury. It’s a shame, because of what he brings on and off the pitch.

During this morning’s training session at Coverciano, Conte lined-up with a 4-4-2 system, with Eder partnering Graziano Pelle up-front.

Ballon D'Or, Buffon left out

FIFA's list of candidates for the Ballon D'Or 2015 includes Juventus' Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Pirlo, but omits goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

The ceremony will take place on January 11 next year, and will reward a player from a set list of 59 candidates.

Chiellini and Pirlo are the only Italians to make the list, on the back of their strong Champions League campaign last year.

Perhaps surprisingly, Buffon was not included in the list, prompting several unhappy responses in Italy.

Pogba: ‘Juve play as a team now’

Paul Pogba says the departures of Carlos Tevez, Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal have made Juventus ‘play as a team.’

The influential trio left Turin in the summer and the Bianconeri have got off to a slow start in the league without them, but the France international believes it has made the team more united.

"With Tevez, Vidal and Pirlo we were all more individualistic,” Pogba told Tuttosport.

“Thanks to their quality we could decide a game at any moment, but now we have to play more as a team.
