Domenech: No Italy, no tragedy

Raymond Domenech says it would not be a ‘tragedy’ if Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup but admits Marco Materazzi was his best opponent.

Domenech coached France at the 2006 World Cup, where they lost to Italy on penalties in the Final, and the 65-year-old was asked for his opinions on the Azzurri by Gazzetta dello Sport.

“No Italy a tragedy? It would be for you, but not the world. The world risked losing Argentina…” he told the newspaper.

Chelsea could be without N’Golo Kante for the Champions League against Roma after he limped off on international duty with France.

The two teams go head-to-head at Stamford Bridge on October 18, then meet again at the Stadio Olimpico on October 31.

However, Kante is now a major doubt to feature in either of those matches.

The former Leicester City enforcer suddenly pulled up clutching the back of his left leg in what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Former Roma left-back Lucas Digne is also included, but Manchester United’s Paul Pogba is ruled out through injury.
