Pjanic: 'Juve must play better'

Miralem Pjanic concedes Juventus “have to play better football,” but looks denies they care more about the Champions League than Serie A.

The Bianconeri are stuttering both domestically and in Europe, beaten 3-2 by Sampdoria and held 1-1 by Barcelona in the Champions League.

“It’s obvious we have to play better football, but then we are accustomed to criticism,” Pjanic told TuttoJuve at a sponsorship event.

Santon: 'Spalletti like Mourinho'

Inter defender Davide Santon said current Coach Luciano Spalletti reminds him of Jose Mourinho “in many aspects.”

The Nerazzurri are still unbeaten this season and sitting pretty in second place behind leaders Napoli.

Much of that is down to new boss Spalletti and Santon is impressed with the former Roma and Zenit tactician.

“Spalletti does remind me of Mourinho in many aspects, but I don’t like to make comparisons,” the former Newcastle United full-back told Mediaset Premium.

Gabigol pushes for Brazil return

Inter forward Gabriel Barbosa is reportedly pushing to return to Brazil, though the club want to send him to Jiangsu Suning.

The striker joined the Nerazzurri from Santos for a fee totalling €33.5m in the summer of 2016, but he didn’t make a single Serie A start and scored just once.

After failing to convince new Coach Luciano Spalletti in pre-season, the Brazilian, who is known as Gabigol, went on loan to Benfica.

Inter plan Icardi renewal

Inter will reportedly renew Mauro Icardi’s contract and raise his release clause, as long as they qualify for the Champions League.

The striker signed a new deal just over a year ago, but there is a €110m release clause for foreign clubs.

With the €222m transfer of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappé’s €180m loan with obligation to buy to the same club and Ousmane Dembélé’s €105m move to Barcelona; that clause no longer looks as prohibitive as it was intended to be.

Real Madrid look at Icardi

Inter hitman Mauro Icardi has attracted attention from Real Madrid as a replacement for Karim Benzema, according to Marca.

The Argentina international is certainly a name to watch, as he scored 13 goals in 13 Serie A games for Inter so far this season, including a hat-trick in the Derby della Madonnina against Milan.

He’s not new to Spain either, as he grew up in Gran Canaria and played in the Barcelona youth academy before moving to Sampdoria in January 2011.

Teixeira or Martinez for Inter?

Inter could reportedly take Roger Martinez or Alex Teixeira, rather than Ramires, from Jiangsu Suning in January.

Both clubs are owned by Suning Group, and last winter saw Trent Sainsbury join the Nerazzurri on loan to provide defensive cover.

It was been widely reported that Ramires could arrive in a similar arrangement, with the Chinese Super League not due to start until March.

However. new rules over foreign players could change the situation, as explained by calciomercato.com.

Napoli's Trojan Horse

Napoli beat Shakhtar Donetsk to keep their Champions League hopes alive, but Richard Hall wonders if they really want a place in the Round of 16?

The San Paolo is always going to make noise and tonight was no different despite only 15,000 attending Napoli’s crucial Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk. In fairness, the game was free on local television, but the absence of the crowd perhaps symbolised the enthusiasm for winning the Scudetto over progress in Europe’s premier competition.

Napoli would make it look easy in the end, despite a poor first half, but is qualification worth it? It could easily be a glittering prize that turns out to bite them, it could be their Trojan horse.
