Gilardino has MLS trial

Alberto Gilardino will train with MLS side Montreal Impact this week, as he seeks to earn a contract.

The striker is a free agent after leaving Pescara, and will spend this week with the Canadian side.

“The Montreal Impact announced on Monday that Italian striker Alberto Gilardino will train with the club at its Centre Nutrilait facility, starting Tuesday,” a statement on the Bleu-blanc-noir’s website reads.

Serie B: Zeman fumbles 3-0 lead

Zdenek Zeman provided a classic example of Zemanlandia in the early Serie B game, as Pescara fumbled a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with Frosinone.

Gilardino has Indian offer?

Former Milan and Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino reportedly has offers to continue his career in India.

The Italian international played for both Empoli and Pescara last season, but failed to score a single Serie A goal.

Having left Tuscany, the 35-year-old is now a free agent and it was reported that he’d continue his career in Major League Soccer.

However, Tuttomercatoweb is now reporting that there are also offers from the Indian Super League.

Gilardino turns down Venezia

Venezia confirm they asked Alberto Gilardino to join them, but “he was very honest and didn’t want to go into Serie B.”

The 35-year-old was expected to meet up again with his former Italy teammate Pippo Inzaghi, who is now the Coach of Venezia.

“He has always been very clear and honest with us,” Lagunari director Giorgio Perinetti told Trivenetogoal.

Serie B: Zemanlandia is back

Zdenek Zeman made a typically flamboyant start to the Serie B season, Pescara crushing his former club Foggia 5-1.

It was at Foggia in the 1990s that the original ‘Zemanlandia’ was born, so it was fitting that he should make his seasonal debut against the newly-promoted side.

Stefano Pettinari was the star of the show for Pescara, bagging a hat-trick.

Memushaj to join Benevento

Pescara midfielder Ledian Memushaj is expected to complete his transfer to Benevento this weekend.

Sportitalia claim the deal is practically done and he has already left the Delfini training camp.

It’s not yet clear whether the move is a permanent one off the bat or a loan with obligation to buy at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old Albania international spent his entire career in Italy, playing for the likes of Chievo, Carpi, Lecce and Pescara.

Aquilani: ‘Waiting for offers’

Alberto Aquilani is waiting for offers, having torn up his contract with Pescara - “I have a huge desire to get started again”.

The creative midfielder spent the final six months of last season on loan with Sassuolo, but is now a free agent after terminating his contract with the Delfini.

“I still had two years on my Pescara contract but I preferred it this way,” Aquiline told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I wanted to play, and I’d have done it but it’s better to wait. I’m living with serenity, without anxiety.

‘I failed last season’ – Zeman

Pescara boss Zdenek Zeman admits he failed to spark a response from his players last season.

The experienced Coach succeeded Massimo Oddo in February with the Delfini already well adrift at the bottom of Serie A.

Despite winning his first match against Genoa 5-0 and overseeing a marginal improvement in results, Zeman was unable to prevent the club from making an immediate return to Serie B.

“Last year I didn’t succeed in changing the mentality of the team,” the 70-year-old conceded.

Official: Fiorentina sign Biraghi

Fiorentina announced a deal to sign Cristiano Biraghi from Pescara for €3m and he will undergo a medical tomorrow.

It is a loan with obligation to buy at the end of the season.

According to Sportitalia, the operation costs €1m for the loan plus another €2m to make it permanent.

The left-back turns 25 next month and came through the Inter academy.

Biraghi went on to play for Catania, Chievo, Granada and since last summer has been at Pescara.

He is a former Italy Under-21 international with one goal in 22 caps.
