Serie A sports judge Gerardo Mastrandrea is expected to return his verdict today in the racism case involving Inter’s Francesco Acerbi and Napoli’s Juan Jesus.

On March 17th, during the closing stages of the 1-1 draw between the Nerazzurri and the Partenopei, Juan Jesus alleged to referee Federico La Penna that Acerbi had racially abused him. The situation caused the defender to withdraw from the Italy national team and both players were questioned by the FIGC.

Acerbi is at risk of being handed a 10-match ban should he be found guilty of racially abusing Juan Jesus, and there are conflicting reports regarding how Inter will respond, with some suggesting that the defender could be let go at the end of the season.

TMW highlights how Serie A sports judge Mastrandrea is expected to return his verdict in the racism case at some point in the coming hours, deciding whether or not the Inter defender is guilty and should be punished as a result.

The Italian centre back has maintained his innocence in the row, claiming that he told Juan Jesus that he’d ‘beat him black and blue’, rather than the allegation that he called the Napoli defender ‘a n****r’.

There is also a chance that Acerbi could be handed a shorter ban as a result of unsportsmanlike conduct, should the alleged racist abuse not be confirmed.
