Inzaghi: 'Lazio fortified by crisis'

Simone Inzaghi asked Lazio to beat not only Hellas Verona, but also their own bad luck amid an injury crisis. “The defeat to Napoli fortified us.”

Lazio lose De Vrij, Bastos and Basta

Lazio gave injury updates on Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Stefan de Vrij, Dusan Basta and Bastos, with lay-offs of up to four weeks.

The Aquile are decimated by fitness worries at the moment and the situation does not look like it’s going to clear up any time soon.

“Milinkovic-Savic has a problem with the adductor in his right leg that requires attention,” chief medic Fabio Rodia told Lazio Style Radio.

PSG join Milinkovic-Savic race

Paris Saint-Germain have joined Bayern Munich and Manchester City in scouting Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Ligue 1 side is keeping a close eye on his progress.

Their new director of sport Antero is believed to be a fan and wants the 22-year-old Serbian to bolster his midfield going into the future.

Milinkovic-Savic only signed a new contract in April, tying him to Lazio until June 2022.

He was snapped up from KRC Genk two years ago for €18m.

Mauricio 'happy' at Lazio recall

Lazio are adding Mauricio back into their Serie A squad due to the centre-back shortage. “I am very happy.”

The Aquile started the season very strongly, but the 4-1 defeat to Napoli on Wednesday evening highlighted serious problems in defence.

During that game alone, they lost Stefan de Vrij, Bastos and Dusan Basta, while Wallace is already out for a month.

Mauricio had originally been dropped from the squad this season, as he was awaiting a transfer following his loan spell at Spartak Moscow.

ADL: 'Mertens gave palpitations'

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis “got palpitations” when seeing that remarkable Dries Mertens goal against Lazio.

The little Belgian had been pushed out wide by Thomas Strakosha, but turned and placed his lob into the far top corner before the goalkeeper could get back into position.

“I didn’t expect it, I saw this ball go into the very top corner: I was stunned and enchanted!” De Laurentiis told Radio 24 from Los Angeles.

Lazio to bring back Mauricio?

Lazio’s defensive injury crisis could lead to a recall for outcast Mauricio, according to reports.

The Biancocelesti are without Wallace, Dusan Basta, Bastos and Stefan de Vrij, meaning only Luiz Felipe and Stefan Radu are available for the trip to Verona.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio’s website that could lead to a shock recall for Brazilian defender Mauricio.

The 28-year-old has been training separately to the rest of the team, alongside other outcasts such as Federico Marchetti and Filip Djordjevic.

Serie A attendances up

Week 5 saw an average of 23,000 fans at Serie A fixtures, as attendances continue to rise.

September sees the first midweek Serie A round of the season, and in the past two years the average attendance hadn’t cracked 20,000.

However, last night there were an average of 23,000 fans, a figure helped by the 45,343 who attended Milan-Spal and the 35,652 at Juventus-Fiorentina.

In addition, 28,000 fans attended the Stadio Olimpico to see Napoli beat hosts Lazio 3-1.

Lazio fined for Napoli chants

Lazio have been fined €10,000 for anti-Neapolitan chanting, with Roma getting the same punishment for throwing flares.

The midweek round of Serie A was played over Tuesday and Wednesday, and today the Lega has released its disciplinary report for Week 5.

Lazio fans were heard chanting slogans which constituted “territorial denigration toward the supporters of the other team” both before the match and in the 18th minute of the first half.

As a result, the Biancocelesti were fined €10,000.

Koulibaly: ‘Scudetto better than CL’

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly would prefer the Scudetto to the Champions League but “it’s too early to talk about it”.

The Partenopei are going for the title this season, and have won all of their games so far to sit top of the table with Juventus.

“We’ve all grown,” Koulibaly said on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“We’re only at the start season but we’ve had hard games and we’ve won them all. So we need to keep doing this, we want to win every game even though obviously it’s difficult.
