Nesta: ‘Totti will be a director’

Alessandro Nesta admits Miami FC approached Roma legend Francesco Totti but “he has a future as a director”.

The 40-year-old played his final match for the Giallorossi against Genoa in May, but hinted that he could continue as a player elsewhere.

There is an offer on the table to become a director with his boyhood club, and Nesta believes he’ll take it up.

“Totti’s farewell? I think it was emotional for everyone, no matter who you support,” the former Lazio captain told Corriere della Sera.

Tommasi ‘not surprised’ by Totti

Francesco Totti’s continuing impact for Roma is not surprising, according to his former teammate Damiano Tommasi.

The Giallorossi’s 39-year-old captain came off the bench to inspire a comeback win over Sampdoria on Sunday, scoring the winning penalty in stoppage time.

However, in the eyes of his former club and international colleague, Totti is the beneficiary of the determination and versatility that he has shown throughout his career.

Speaking to media post-match at Stadio Olimpico, the American said the wet playing surface was the reason for his reservations over the game's decisive moment.

Totti’s comments were made in response to being questioned about the Bianconeri’s big money transfer activity this summer, which has seen both Miralem Pjanic and Higuain join the Old Lady from direct Serie A rivals.

“Footballers today are a bit like nomads,” Totti said. “They follow money and not their hearts. Maybe that is the difference between me and all the others.
