Chiesa’s Viola renewal imminent?

Federico Chiesa will reportedly extend his contract with Fiorentina until 2022 imminently.

According to Corriere Fiorentino, there are “no doubts” that Chiesa will put pen to paper after a successful round of talks.

The newspaper explains Fiorentina wanted to strengthen their hold on the winger after Napoli tried to sign him over the summer.

The 19-year-old has started the 2017-18 campaign with a goal and an assist in five appearances.

Wk6: Human error

Football cannot exist without errors, judgment calls and disagreements, so Susy Campanale warns it's all about the great imponderable elements.

It is impossible – nor is it desirable – to completely remove human error from sport. VAR’s truth is in the eye of the beholder. Players making mistakes to cause or miss goals is what football is based on. A Coach will always be accused of doing something wrong, no matter how much or little he changes his team from match to match. Errors, and the avoidance of them, are what make sport possible. It’s also why there are so many debate shows, podcasts, Twitter feeds and blogs like this one, because we don’t all agree on what is right.

Pioli: 'Denied two clear penalties'

Fiorentina Coach Stefano Pioli doesn’t “see how it’s possible to award one penalty and not the other two” after a contentious draw with Atalanta.

Fiorentina vent fury at VAR

Fiorentina director Carlos Freitas protested that VAR is not being used correctly after three very controversial incidents against Atalanta.

The Orobici sealed a last-gasp 1-1 draw at the Stadio Franchi, but referee Luca Pairetto was at the centre of the storm.

“The two points won’t come back. The players, staff and fans deserved the three points and once again we were unlucky with some really controversial decisions,” Freitas told Mediaset Premium.

Gasp: 'Fiorentina can't blame ref'

Gian Piero Gasperini insists “it takes some serious courage to blame the referee” after Atalanta’s draw with Fiorentina. “We deserved more.”

The Viola had taken the lead through Federico Chiesa’s stunner, but Papu Gomez saw a penalty parried and the hosts had two strong penalty appeals rejected.

In the final minute, Remo Freuler drilled in for the equaliser from the edge of the box.

Freuler: 'Atalanta better than Viola'

Remo Freuler insists Atalanta “are a better team than Fiorentina and we dropped two points” in their last-gasp 1-1 draw.

The midfielder drilled in with practically the last kick of the game to snatch a stalemate at the Stadio Franchi after Federico Chiesa’s opener.

“I am angry with myself for missing that chance right at the beginning, so the goal right at the end was what I needed to make up for it,” he told Mediaset Premium.

Last-gasp Atalanta stun Viola

Atalanta grabbed a controversial last-gasp draw at Fiorentina, as Remo Freuler wiped out a Federico Chiesa stunner and Marco Sportiello saved a penalty.

The Viola broke through within 12 minutes, as Chiesa followed on his wonderful first touch by letting it bounce for a rocket into the near top corner.

It was a fast and furious second half, with the referee pointing to the spot for a debatable penalty, but Sportiello got one hand to the Papu Gomez spot-kick.

Pioli convinced of Viola growth

Stefano Pioli is convinced his Fiorentina side are improving as they prepare to face Atalanta.

Under the guidance of the former Inter Coach, the Viola lost their first two matches of the Serie A season before winning their next two.

And in their last encounter, they ran champions Juventus close before ultimately losing by a single goal to nil.

“Everyone has recovered,” Pioli said of his team’s exertions. “If there are no problems, I will change as few as possible.
