Buffon backs Higuain to prove worth

Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon has backed new signing Gonzalo Higuain to thrive at the club.

The Argentine forward recently arrived in Turin from Napoli for a fee of €90m, the third highest in history.

During an interview with Sky Sport, Old Lady legend Buffon outlined the attributes he believes will make the 28-year-old a big hit at Juventus Stadium.

“Higuain? He could count for a lot,” Buffon remarked. “I think this because of his history as a player, the teams he has played for and the goals he has scored.

Buffon sets Champions League target

Gigi Buffon has set Juventus the target of wining the Champions League this season.

The Bianconeri have been dominant in Italian domestic football in recent years, winning five consecutive Scudetti and the League and cup double in the past two campaigns.

However, they have yet to translate this supremacy at home into European success, losing the 2015 final to Barcelona.

“The Champions League is a target for the team,” Buffon told Sky Sport on Thursday.

Buffon: ‘Big chance for Italy’

Captain Gigi Buffon says Italy have a “big chance” to seal Euro 2016 qualification tomorrow night.

The Azzurri face Azerbaijan in Baku, knowing that three points will make them mathematically certain of qualification for the tournament in France next summer.

“We have a big chance which we have to take,” Buffon noted in the pre-match Press conference.

“We have to leave the field with no regrets. It’s always nice to play big games like this.”

Nedved: ‘Morata belongs to Juventus’

Pavel Nedved does not believe Alvaro Morata will leave Juventus for Real Madrid - “he’s ours, I only see him at Juve”.

The Spanish striker arrived in Turin in the summer of 2014, but Los Merengues retain a buyback clause for summer 2016.

“He’s ours, and I only see him at Juve,” Nedved, now a Bianconeri director, told reporters after a golf event.

“He’s very good, and I think so far he’s only at 60 per cent.”
