Empoli sporting director Marcello Carli believes that Roma 'musn't lose their Coach Luciano Spalletti'.

The tactician is only under contract until the end of the season, and there is speculation over where his future will lie next season.

After working together at the Tuscan club, Carli knows Spalletti well, and revealed his qualities after discussing another former Coach in Maurizio Sarri.

"Maybe [President James] Pallotta will go so far as to chain Spalletti to the Colosseum in order to convince him to stay," the director told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Luciano is a phenomenon. Roma can not afford to lose him. [Francesco] Totti also said it. And it is very true."

What would Carli say is the downfall of his former Coach?

"He is too generous and is takes on responsibility that is not his own. Luciano is a passionate person. He’d pay from his own pocket to win the Scudetto with Roma or Fiorentina, the two teams that are in his heart.

"Too much passion makes you lose lucidity. He has to focus only on his work, in which he is a number one."

But does the Empoli man think he will stay at Roma next term?

"I do not know. I wish him, however, happiness in his work. And also to finish second in the league and to win the Coppa Italia."
