Former Sevilla sporting director Monchi admits he is 'close to a decision about Roma', revealing he 'likes the project' at the club.

The Spaniard has become famous for his incredible buying and selling ability with Los Blanquirrojos, having made the club a fortune in profits with a constant stream of quality acquisitions.

"I will not go to another Spanish team," the sporting director told El Larguero. "I cannot do this, because I am Sevillista and I will only look to go abroad.

"I will not go to another Spanish team," the sporting director told El Larguero. "I cannot do this, because I am Sevillista and I will only look to go abroad.

"Roma? It’s the most concrete offer, for sure. But it’s not a done deal yet. I’m evaluating it a little bit more, they are waiting for me.

"I like the project at Roma. The final decision be soon: we are close.

"I have already been to Rome, as a visitor obviously, a long time ago. It is a beautiful city, I miss it a bit… The last time I was in Rome they scored six goals against us!"

When asked the question of whether Francesco Totti would continue to play for another year, the Spaniard was said to have not responded, only smiled.

"I work with absolute autonomy in terms of negotiations. The philosophy of Real Madrid does not come close to mine.

"Dani Alves – we took him for €600,000 and sold him for €35-36m. He was my perfect purchase. I was also very close to Marcelo and [Robin] Van Persie."
