In a shock announcement, Inter have fired Coach Stefano Pioli after two points from 10 games.

“FC Internazionale Milano announce that Coach Stefano Pioli has been removed from his position along with his technical staff,” read the statement released this evening.

“Inter thank Stefano and his collaborators for the dedication and hard work done for the Club during the last six months of what has proved to be a difficult season.

“The current Primavera Coach, Stefano Vecchi, has been given the first team with immediate effect and for the three games still to play this season.

“The club will start from now to prepare for the next sporting season.”

This decision came just hours after rumours that Pioli had already agreed to take over as Fiorentina Coach next season.

Among the candidates for Inter are Antonio Conte, Diego Simeone and Luciano Spalletti.

Inter started pre-season with Roberto Mancini, who walked away by mutual consent two weeks before the opening Serie A game.

Frank de Boer was brought in and fired on November 1, having lost four of the five matches in October.

Stefano Vecchi was already promoted to the main bench as caretaker from November 3-8, losing 2-1 to Southampton in the Europa League and beating Crotone 3-0 in Serie A.

Pioli was appointed on November 8 and fired on May 9, so Vecchi was restored to the role.
