Atalanta are very close to bringing Marten de Roon back to Serie A, prepared to pay Middlesbrough €14m (£12.3m).
The 26-year-old had been sold to Boro a year ago for €15m (£13.2m).
He scored five goals in 35 competitive games for the Premier League club this season.
However, Sky Sport Italia claim De Roon is coming straight back to Bergamo for a figure just over last year’s selling price.
The Dutch midfielder had only arrived with Atalanta in 2015 for €1.3m from Heerenveen.
