Kolarov spent three years at Lazio between 2007 and 2010, prior to joining Manchester City, but the left-back has since moved to Roma, in a transfer that saw him branded a “worm” by a group of his former supporters.

“I’m very happy to be here. Today’s my first day and I hope everything goes well,” the 31-year-old told Roma TV.

“I’ve met everyone, including [Coach Eusebio] Di Francesco, who I saw this morning.

“I already knew some of the players, the others I didn’t, but we’ll all have the time to get to know each other better.

“Talks were first opened around a week ago. I talked to the sporting director and the deal ultimately went as we all wanted it to.

“Monchi was very important in this deal, he was very clear with me and I was very clear with him: we virtually found an agreement in two minutes.

“Dzeko? Edin and I have been in touch since he left City. I asked him about Roma and he had only nice things to say. I’m happy to play with him again.

“My objective is always to win. I’ll give 100 percent to win every game and try to win some trophies.

“Roma’s objectives? To always win their games. After that, we’ll see where we’ll finish, but you always have to set the bar high.

“Did I keep following Serie A after leaving Lazio? Yes, because there were so many ex-Serie A players at City: I practically followed Serie A every Sunday.

“Now Italian football is back where it was before. It’s a very competitive League.

“Lazio? I can’t and don’t want to deny my past, but now I’m at Roma and as I gave 100 percent to Lazio, now I’ll give another 100% to Roma.

“Lazio was a beautiful experience, but for as long as I’m here, they’re my rivals on the pitch.”
