Gary Medel explained why he “had many offers, but chose Besiktas” when leaving Inter, as he formally completed the transfer.

The Chile international signed a three-year contract and it’s reported the move was worth €2.3m plus a percentage of any future sale for the 30-year-old.

“Besiktas is the most important club in Turkey and one that is constantly growing, so it was an easy decision for me to make,” said Medel at his presentation.

“There were many offers, but I chose Besiktas. My aim here is to be a champion and be happy. I want us to all win together. This side won the League title twice in a row and I am here to make sure we maintain those achievements.”

Medel confirmed he will wear the Number 12 jersey in Turkey and is open to tactical changes.

“I feel comfortable in many roles, as I played both in defence and midfield for Inter. I hope to score goals, but the most important thing is for the team to win.

“It’s true I am an aggressive player on the field and have received many cards because of it, but I am more experienced now and hope to avoid dismissals.”
