It’s no secret that the Blaugrana have chosen Coutinho as the ideal replacement for Neymar following the €222m transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool released a statement this week insisting he was not for sale at any price, but manager Jurgen Klopp’s comments suggested it wasn’t quite so simple.

Now the Mirror on Sunday newspaper is looking at potential heirs to Coutinho and identified Insigne, who has long been on Klopp’s radar.

However, a move would be practically impossible, as Insigne only just signed a new contract to June 2022 and is a fan icon, the only representative in the side of his hometown.

Napoli will face Nice in the Champions League play-off next week and are among the favourites for the Scudetto going into the new Serie A season.

Insigne scored 20 goals with 12 assists in 49 competitive games for the Partenopei last term.
