Multiple sources suggest today that Borriello has played his last game in Sardinia following a row with Coach Massimo Rastelli.

Sky Sport Italia are confident he’s going towards Spal, despite interest also from Bologna and Genoa.

It’s possible the 35-year-old hitman will simply terminate his contract by mutual consent.

Now Sportitalia maintain that Cagliari will replace Borriello with Pavoletti, who has barely featured since completing his €18m transfer from Genoa to Napoli in January.

The 28-year-old has played for the likes of Sassuolo, Juve Stabia, Virtus Lanciano and Varese.
