New Fiorentina midfielder Marco Benassi claims he was forced out by Torino. “I would’ve been third or fourth choice…”
Benassi’s transfer to Fiorentina was considered something of a surprise, having been Torino’s captain last season, but the Italy hopeful was dropped towards the end of the campaign without any explanation.
“My story with Torino was quite long and satisfying,” he stated at his official unveiling as a Viola player.
“But for the last two months [of the previous season], I didn’t know why I wasn’t playing. I only left because of their management, which I didn’t like.
“When I came back for the new season, I went to talk to the Coach, who told me I wouldn’t be a starter and that I’d be third or fourth choice.
“When Fiorentina called me, I didn’t have even half of a doubt. Certainly it’s also an extra opportunity for me to make the World Cup.”
