History made in Juventus-Cagliari

Juventus swept Cagliari aside 3-0 in the League opener, but Gigi Buffon also saved the first Serie A penalty awarded via VAR.

Mario Mandzukic got the first goal of the season, volleying in a Stephan Lichtsteiner cross.

History was made with Alex Sandro’s trip on Duje Cop only caught by the Video Assistant Referee, but Buffon parried the spot-kick from Diego Farias.

Instead, Paulo Dybala doubled Juve’s lead thanks to a sensational Miralem Pjanic assist and Gonzalo Higuain rounded out the scoreline in the second half.

Juve also gave Serie A debuts to Blaise Matuidi and Douglas Costa, experimenting a 4-3-3 formation.
