“His anger is good, I’m glad he’s angry,” Pecchia told Mediaset Premium. “It was a tactical choice and I would do it again, because the squad is not in great shape and I needed pace.

“I evaluate all the players, I pondered this decision and it had a certain logic to it. I tried to put more pace down the flanks and not give reference points with Daniel Bessa or Alessio Cerci in the centre-forward role.

“Aside from the 3-1 result, we were under pressure for long periods, but I’m happy because we tried to play our game and had chances to open it up again at the end. Napoli are a very strong side, but we still caused them some problems.

“Pazzini and Cerci can play in a 4-4-2, but it’s an issue of fitness levels. Martin Caceres hasn’t even trained with us for two weeks, but he’s a great professional and a great athlete.”
