Kalidou Koulibaly celebrated Napoli getting past Nice 4-0 on aggregate to reach the Champions League. “We all defend together.”
The Azzurri earned a 2-0 victory at the Allianz Riviera thanks to Jose Callejon and Lorenzo Insigne goals.
“It was a very difficult game. Beforehand, we heard Nice wanted to play more attacking, but we did our usual football,” Koulibaly told Mediaset Premium.
“It took a while to get through and score the opener, but right after the restart we broke the deadlock and took home this deserved victory. It makes us very happy.
“We knew that Mario Balotelli was a very dangerous player. We studied them, but were above all concentrated on keeping a high line and playing out from the back.
“It was a good performance.”
Napoli went out last season in the Round of 16 to eventual winners Real Madrid and could well face them again in the draw on August 24.
“Real Madrid are in the past now. Those games hurt, because we knew we could do better. Now we await the group draw and intend to do well.
“The Coach said from the start that we all had to defend together and we see Lorenzo, Dries, Callejon all track back. We are a very united group and we all run back to celebrate when someone scored, so we really care about each other.”
Koulibaly was asked about reports Barcelona are going for Insigne rather than Philippe Coutinho as a replacement for Neymar.
“Insigne is an important player, I wouldn’t call him the Italian Neymar… Insigne is Insigne. We’re pleased that everyone is talking about him, both in Italy and abroad, because he’s a really good player.”
