Napoli Coach Maurizio Sarri “really was very close to joining Milan” two years ago, confirmed Adriano Galliani.
The former Rossoneri CEO made clear the rumours of negotiations were true when Sarri left Empoli in the summer of 2015.
“Sarri is an absolutely wonderful Coach and, I can confirm, a while ago he really was very close to joining Milan,” Galliani told Mediaset Premium.
It was reported at the time that then-President Silvio Berlusconi rejected Sarri because of his left-wing political leanings.
Berlusconi founded the Forza Italia party, the biggest right-leaning party in the country, and was the Prime Minister of Italy.
