“We did everything right this week and I see our players eager to start the season well in front of our home fans,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Although a completely revamped side lost 3-0 to Inter last Sunday, they did impress in a midweek 2-1 friendly defeat at Real Madrid.

Federico Chiesa also returns from suspension and could well start in support of Giovanni Simeone.

“I will give the team the line-up tomorrow morning. We’ve got the right mixture of youthful enthusiasm and the experienced players showing them the ropes.

“We’ll carry on with our current tactical shape, as we have the right characteristics and just need to consolidate the balance. Above all, we require the right mentality to interpret the game well. We want to approach every match with confidence and go for the victory.

“It’s not fair to say last week the result with Inter was a foregone conclusion. The team must get accustomed to pressure situations, but we’ve got the enthusiasm to do well in front of the home fans.”

There may well be less of a cauldron-like atmosphere than usual, as season ticket sales have plunged 25 per cent this year.

“I am accustomed to giving my players the most positive messages. The fans will give us an extra boost and it’s up to us to prove we deserve it. We have changed a great deal, so it will take time, but we can put in good performances.

“On the other hand, Sampdoria have barely changed at all, they are well-drilled and have precise movements. We must know how to attack and defend, gritting our teeth.

“Fiorentina were accustomed to playing in Europe and I hope we can get back in there as soon as possible. Meanwhile, we’ll take the opportunity to work consistently in training throughout the week.”

Riccardo Saponara is the only player on the treatment table.
