Fiorentina have officially released Matias Fernandez on a free transfer, allowing the midfielder to join Mexican side Necaxa.
Reports on Saturday suggested Fernandez was close to agreeing terms with Necaxa, and Fiorentina confirmed via a statement on their official website that they had mutually terminated the Chilean’s contract.
The 31-year-old joined the Viola from Sporting CP in 2012 and made 131 appearances during his time at the Artemio Franchi.
However, he fell out of favour under Paulo Sousa and spent last season on loan at Milan.
