It was announced today that, from next summer, English clubs will only be able to sell players up to the Thursday before the Premier League starts.

Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta opined that a similar system should exist in Italy, while Roma’s Monchi called it “a just and logical decision”.

“The transfer window, as it’s been lately, is something incredibly difficult,” Petrachi told Sky.

“It’s not so much a case of selling a player as finding another 24 hours. It’s a very difficult task and it was for me, you have to find the right player to integrate into a team which is already together.

“Beyond that, I think it’s right to stop when you start a new season. It’s hard to manage players who are bombarded by their agents every day.

“You always need to be alert to talk to agents and players.

“So could we shorten the Italian window? Yes. I hope so, because talking with my colleagues we’re all convinced that it would be right.

“Closing the transfer window when a team starts playing competitively maybe can’t be done, but it could at least be closed from August 1, with the start of the Coppa Italia and the matches that matter.”
