“We are facing a team that will have its first game in the new stadium. Cagliari will give their all to get points, so we must match them in terms of motivation and spoil the party,” said Nicola in his Press conference.

“Cagliari have a very specific philosophy of football and do not play with a classic diamond midfield. It’ll be an even tougher fight to secure safety this season than it was last time, but our philosophy won’t change either.”

Arlind Ajeti is out after sustaining a knock during international duty, while Aleksandar Tonev, Mariano Izco and Andrea Nalini are also in doubt.

“The latest arrivals are in good shape and we’ll see if there is the opportunity to make the most of them. They could well be ready physically, but what counts is being fully enmeshed in the tactics, including on set plays.

“The break for international duty is useful for working in training, but not so much when most of your players aren’t here.”
