It became impossible to guarantee public safety, so the local authorities made the call to cancel the Lazio-Milan match.

The weather warnings had already prompted the Prefecture in Genoa to call off Sampdoria v Roma on Saturday evening.

Udinese-Genoa was also believed to be at risk today, but the roads are holding up and the pitch has been covered since last night.

The worst of the weather has been in Livorno, where flash floods have left seven dead and another three missing.
