Leonardo admits “I didn’t expect Inter to be like this” but is now backing them “to have their say” in the Serie A title race.
Three wins out of three have propelled Inter towards the top of Serie A, alongside Juve and Napoli, and Leonardo has been impressed by his former club, despite them having “no great champions”.
“I think Juve are still the favourites. I didn’t expect Inter to be like this, but they’re a serious team,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“They don’t have any great champions, but they’re a team of strong, physical players, who are doing Spalletti wants.
“They’re a solid team and I think they can have their say, even if you can’t put them forward as favourites just yet.
“Perisic is Inter’s most important player, who makes the difference. To me, he’s a No 10 who plays out wide. He has crazy pace.
“He was misunderstood, but now he realises that he was a great player. Icardi scores the goals, but Perisic is an extraordinary player.”
