James Pallotta has accused the Press of “trying to bring Roma down” and warns “I’ll publicly refute these rumours every day if I have to.”

Eusebio Di Francesco has already come in for criticism, despite overseeing just three competitive games as Roma Coach, and Pallotta took a swipe at the media for having a perceived agenda against the Giallorossi.

“There’s this desire on the media’s part to publish something at all costs,” the President told Roma Radio.

“I woke up, looked through the newspapers and was rather dismayed.

“At the end of the game, I narrowed my hands and embraced the players while they were in the dressing room.

“I embraced Manolas and Alisson and congratulated all the lads for having fought on the pitch, the same with Di Francesco a couple of times and Monchi.

“I didn’t say a single negative word to anyone. My only complaint was referring to a possible penalty in our favour in the first half and maybe another in the second.

“Our fans, who are the best in the world, must begin to understand that some sections of the media are trying to bring this team and Coach down.

“I’m not willing to put up with it and if I have to publicly refute these rumours every day, I will.

“The Coach is just settling and I’m very, very happy with him. The team’s morale is high, you only have to see our training sessions.

“We won in Bergamo against Atalanta, which is difficult for anyone. After that, we were better than Inter for 60-65 minutes, we deserved a penalty at 1-0 and we hit the woodwork three times. Ultimately we lost, but I liked how the team played.

“We faced Atletico Madrid: everyone knows them, they’re a team that have played two Champions League Finals in three seasons.

“We managed the game well in the first half and suffered at times in the second, but we have a great goalkeeper.

“Even if we wanted to win, 0-0 is a good result in the Champions League: just take a look at the results of the other teams, a couple of whom were unfortunately Italian.

“I’m optimistic and once everyone is available, we’ll do better.”
