“A win would be a great gift for me! We are missing a few players, but this is a very important match and we have to keep up the pace with the others,” Monchi told Mediaset Premium.

“We must focus on the game now, then after that we can be ambitious for the future. I arrived for a project that encompassed the present and the future. I know how important it is for the club, the fans and the city to win something. Roma are a big club and must win.”

The director of sport was also asked about his transfer strategy and how closely he works with Coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

“My work is to find players who are suited to playing in the tactician’s system. It is also finding players who can be adaptable to different systems, but always in the interests of what the Coach wants.

“Patrik Schick can play in several different positions, as he can be a centre-forward in place of Edin Dzeko when needed or in wider roles.”
