“Juan Cuadrado had a knock in training, so as a precaution Federico Bernardeschi is warming up,” explained the director general on Mediaset Premium.

The surprise is that Higuain was benched against Torino and is again dropped for the Champions League tonight.

“We’ve said many times, it’s a long season, we had 57 games last term, so it’s only right that the Coach evaluates which player to use. If the Coach chose this XI, then we can only share his evaluations.

“That takes nothing away from Higuain, who remains a great player and great professional, who will soon enough have the chance to prove himself at his usual levels.

“Juve have always put in good performances. They might not be as spectacular as some others, but we do get the result and are clinical. The Derby win over Torino was out best of the campaign so far, but we are accustomed to having a slow start to the season.

“If that allows us to build momentum, then there can be no complaints about that and is probably part of the Juventus DNA.

“People say the result is a consequence of the performance, so the important thing is the result. We need to make up for lost ground, the opponents are within our reach and we have to keep focused both psychologically and physically.”
