“After such a heavy defeat in the derby, it is always tough to get back on the pitch,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“The lads trained well, we can make up for it straight away and get the table back in line with our objective of European qualification. Clearly, we are stronger than Verona on paper and everyone expects us to win, but I’m taking nothing for granted.

“Verona have nothing to lose and we have 95 minutes to prove ourselves, not 10 minutes. I ask the fans to have patience, as these are the times when the lads needs their confidence boosted and not more anxiety.

“If someone wants to protest the 4-0 defeat, then they can take it out on me, as I am the only person responsible. They can jeer me. I am a Coach and I will never blame my players. When we lose, it’s my fault, when we win, they deserve the credit. That’s how it has always been and always will be.”

Toro are still waiting for M’Baye Niang to score his first goal in a Granata jersey since the transfer from Milan.

“He is improving every day, gaining confidence and getting to know his teammates. He should be in good shape after the break for international duty.

“I always play on the attack, because that’s how you win games. If I clam up against Juve, they’re going to score a goal against me sooner or later. This is why I prefer to run risks and win rather than lose narrowly.

“The Derby with Juventus practically never started, as we were punished by the first error and went down to 10 men after 25 minutes. It was a mistake from Daniele Baselli, we were up against a stronger side and couldn’t afford to get away with errors.

“I live for the challenge, that’s just my personality. If you stay seated forever, you won’t fall down, but you will also never stand up. I could’ve prepared a more defensive approach to Juve and followed the example of my colleagues who said it’ll take ‘a miracle’ to pry points off them, but I prefer to attack, no matter who we are facing.”
