Hamsik: ‘Juventus are the team to beat’

Napoli captain Marek Hamsik believes “Juventus are the team to beat” in Serie A but “we’re close or on the same level”.

The Partenopei are leading Serie A after an undefeated start to the season, but they face Milan on Saturday night with the Bianconeri lying just a point behind.

“Are Juventus the team to beat? Definitely,” Hamsik said in his Press conference today.

“They’re coming off six Scudetti won in a row, Juve are the team to beat but we’re close or on the same level.

“Maybe we’re missing something but we’re thinking about it and we want to win this Scudetto. There are little things both mentally and physically, to win everything has to be perfect.

“Milan? We have to be careful, even if the table says otherwise. Milan remain very strong and can cause us problems.

“We’ll need to be ready and react, playing as we have done since the start of the season.

“Since [Coach Maurizio] Sarri has come in there’s been constant growth, year after year we’re improving as individuals and as a collective.

“The road is long though, that’s not enough to win something. Now we await Milan, and we’ll have to be good in preparing for this challenge.

“Are Milan out of the Scudetto race? 13 points is a lot, but everything is open because we’re still at the start of the season.

“We’re thinking about ourselves though, not the others.

"Have I recovered over the international break? It helped, even though 13 players were away with their national teams.

"Sarri wasn't happy about that, but we're fired-up and ready to stay in first place. We want to do well, but it won't be easy.

"Milan and Shakhtar [Donetsk] will both be important, but we think of Saturday's game first and then the rest."

The Slovakian is just one goal away from break Diego Maradona’s record, but it’s been a long time coming…

“I think about it, but I think others think about it more than me,” Hamsik smiled.

“It’ll come when it comes. I’ve scored a lot, I’ve always shown that I can do it consistently over a season. I’m calm, no problems.

“I’m thinking about the team and our results, those are more important and I’m happy with those, we need to go forward like this.

“When the goal comes I’ll be happy.”
