The Giallorossi needed only a point at the Wanda Metropolitano to be sure of qualification to the Champions League Round of 16, but were undone by an Antoine Griezmann stunner and Kevin Gameiro’s goal.

“We played well in the first half and had some good possession. After the break, we lost the ball too easily and this favoured Atleti,” the defender told Mediaset Premium.

“It’s not the fault of the defence, as we worked really hard and must continue like this, maintaining our confidence. We weren’t tired after the derby, but they stepped up the pressing game and we lost the ball too cheaply. That is what made the difference.

“We want to beat Qarabag in the final match and the crowd will help us.”
