Serie A stars up for Team of the Year

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and Napoli forward Dries Mertens are among the names nominated for UEFA’s Team of the Year.

European football’s governing body is looking to find the best XI from 2017, with a poll on its official website.

Club and international performances over the calendar year are taken into account, and there are several Serie A stars nominated.

Buffon is nominated for best goalkeeper, with Juventus teammates Giorgio Chiellini and Alex Sandro among the candidates for the defence.

Milan’s Leonardo Bonucci has also been given the nod, as has Dani Alves who spent last season with Juve.

Another Bianconeri star, Miralem Pjanic, is a nominee in midfield while up-front Paulo Dybala is joined by Napoli’s Dries Mertens.
