Marco Giampaolo refused to fault Sampdoria’s attitude after a 3-0 defeat to 10-man Bologna, but “we were missing something.”

The visitors were already 2-0 down by the 25th minute and played the entire second half against 10 men at the Stadio Dall’Ara following a red card for Vasilis Torosidis.

“The team tried to play the usual game and Bologna made the most of the counter-attacks,” Giampaolo told Sky Sport Italia.

“We were missing something and were always second to the ball. If you give Bologna space, they have plenty of quality. I can’t fault our attitude, as we should give credit to Bologna.

“The 3-0 scoreline is harsh, considering the performance, but when you ask the side to have an attacking mentality, that will include a few risks.

“I will analyse the goals we conceded, as they were all unusual incidents. It’s also natural that after beating Juventus, expectations are raised and results are evaluated in a different way.”
