Carlo Ancelotti was first choice for the role, but seems to want the rest of the season off after his dismissal from Bayern Munich.
Mancini has shrugged off the speculation, saying he’s not ready for this yet, but struck a more positive tone in an interview with Rai Sport.
“Being the Coach of your country is the ultimate dream of every tactician,” said Mancio.
“It would be a great honour to lead your own country.”
A new CT cannot be appointed until the Federation has a President in place, as Carlo Tavecchio resigned following the World Cup debacle.
