“I shared a room with Rino too in all those years as teammates. He is the right choice, as he knows what the Milan DNA is,” former goalkeeper Abbiati told Mediaset Premium.
“Of course, four or five training sessions aren’t enough to change much, but he has brought his ideas of grit, running at 100mph and the real Milan DNA.
“Football teaches us there are no easy games. Benevento made Juventus and Atalanta struggle recently, so we’ve got it all to lose, but we need the three points to improve our situation in the table.”
Gattuso was promoted from the Primavera youth team after Vincenzo Montella was sacked on Monday.
“When the results don’t arrive, the confidence goes too and in my view that is what was missing lately. We signed so many quality players, it’s not possible that in five months they were unable to put their quality on to the pitch.
“The blame can go on to people who are not to blame, others shoulder too much responsibility, some with less character struggle to deal with the pressure.
“I’ve had a rapport with Rino for 20 years. With Vincenzo, we had a Euros together, but didn’t know each other so well. Obviously, with Rino we go way back and our families are friends too.”
