The Viola had been without a win in four rounds, but broke that drought in style with a 3-0 victory.

“It’s a very balanced and difficult campaign, so we need to express ourselves well in every game. I think we expressed ourselves with some good football today and looked solid, although I didn’t like the second half, as we seemed to take the result for granted,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

Giovanni Simeone, Jordan Veretout and Federico Chiesa were on target against Sassuolo.

“Veretout is a surprise, because it’s not easy for players to come in from other nations and other leagues to settle in so quickly. It’s frankly more often you see this sort of player take a while to get into gear.

“There’s room for everyone and we will keep working all together for a common goal. We knew Sassuolo would clam up and wait for us, so we had to move the ball quickly and move players off the ball too. Pace and intensity was important and it showed when we let that tempo drop at the start of the second half.”

Pioli’s old club Inter have just moved to the top of the Serie A table for the first time since January 2016.

“I can only compliment my ex-team for what they are doing. There were good players with me too, but were unfortunately unable to get the results they deserved. It was already a strong side, it has been strengthened.

“Maybe I bring good luck, as after I left, Simone Inzaghi found success at Lazio too!”
