Osti: 'No Sampdoria sales'

Sampdoria director Carlo Osti assured no stars will be sold in January, although “there will certainly be offers,” including for Dawid Kownacki.

The Blucerchiati host Lazio this evening. It kicks off at 19.45 GMT, follow the build-up and action on the LIVEBLOG.

“We are very happy to have Marco Giampaolo, he’s been working well for a year and a half, and thanks to that organisation, the new players were able to settle in quickly too,” Osti told Mediaset Premium.

“We are not looking at the table, we look at our performances. So far they have been excellent at home, we had a few dips away, but tonight are up against a side that has picked up a lot of points on their travels. It’s an important test.

“Perhaps this squad has difficulties against more defensive opponents, but we are trying to improve that. At the same time, we are Sampdoria, we haven’t set any specific targets for the season, we just want to improve.

“I don’t think the team is inconsistent in terms of mentality. We ran into problems with Udinese, Chievo and Bologna against sides that had different tactical approaches to our own.”

Several big Sampdoria names have caught the eye of top clubs, including Lucas Torreira and Dennis Praet.

“President Massimo Ferrero said that nobody will leave in January and that is already a good sign. There will certainly be offers, but until the end of the season, we will remain as we are.”

Patrik Schick was sold to Roma over the summer, but Polish talent Kownacki is already following in his footsteps with a great scoring record off the bench.

“He is a player we wanted very much. It’s true there were other clubs who wanted him, but Sampdoria showed great belief in the qualities of this lad. He showed his quality immediately, can do much better and we already have some very strong forwards, so he’ll have to wait a little while.

“The important thing is that when he’s given the chance, he takes it.”
