Daniele De Rossi hopes winning the Champions League group can “clean up the image of Roma in Europe in a way.”
The Giallorossi finished ahead of Chelsea thanks to tonight’s 1-0 win over Qarabag, which eliminated Atletico Madrid from the tournament.
“It’s a result nobody dared hope for when the draw was made,” De Rossi told Mediaset Premium.
“I am particularly glad, as Roma had some real embarrassments in Europe over the years, so this as cleaned up the image of Roma in Europe in a way.”
The result was also unexpected because Coach Eusebio Di Francesco’s only real experience was with Sassuolo.
“In May I was talking about how much Luciano Spalletti had put us back on track, especially as I think he’s the Coach who worked with me the most. I wanted to confirm my fondness for him when he left.
“It’s clear that the new Coach has made a huge impact and surprised everyone, because we didn’t expect to raise the level to this degree in Europe as well as in Serie A.”
