Radja Nainggolan says Roma enjoyed silencing their critics after they qualified for the Champions League last 16. “Nobody thought we’d get through…”
Roma finished top of Group C with a 1-0 win against Qarabag on Tuesday, which also meant they would avoid the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in the first knockout phase.
“It’s a good result and a struggle on the night, because Qarabag were all in defence, but we showed the right patience to find a way through,” the midfielder said after the game.
“Our qualification is deserved. We had trouble in some games, but nobody thought we’d get through, let alone as top of the group, so it’s really satisfying.
“When you are in a position to qualify and it all depends on you, there’s more motivation.
“We are happy, the draw will be in a little while and whoever we get in the Round of 16, it’ll be fun to take part in it.
“We’ve actually lost some important players from last season, so nobody expected us to be doing this well in Europe and Serie A.
“It’s satisfying for everyone and the sensations in the city are good too.”
