Gian Piero Gasperini says there will be “no rotation” for Atalanta’s final Europa League group stage match against Lyon.
Both sides are already assured of progression from Group E, but the Orobici will top the group if they win, or if they draw 0-0 or 1-1. Any draw above 1-1 would see the French side through on away goals.
“Tomorrow is an important match,” Gasperini insisted in his pre-match Press conference.
“Not so much for first or second place, but because we’re meeting a very strong team. It could be a test run for the Last 32.
“Aside from the prestige of finishing top it’s a preparation for a decisive match, we need to play with concentration as though it were crucial for qualification.
“No rotation, it’s an important match for us. We’re not used to playing decisive matches and we have to try it.
“I’ve seen a lot of Lyon’s recent matches, they’re a good team who can aim for this competition with the right ambitions.
“There are two results we can get, we can interpret the game in more ways and test our ability, then put that into practice against our next opponents.
“In the first leg we struggled in the first half, but did much better in the second. We’ve faced Juventus, Napoli and Roma; and Lyon are on that level.”
